Finished up our community asset mapping project this week. For the last month or so, a group of about a dozen students and myself living in Hyde Park have been conducting interviews and gathering information about the ‘assets’ of Hyde Park. Assets are something that actively participates in aiding/helping a community. My asset was the University of Chicago— definitely a tricky asset to say the least. Provides lots of health, education, jobs, etc to the community. But it is also buying up local property, breaking up some ties to the local community, and gentrifying the neighborhood. Pros and cons both.
Any who, that’s done now. I’m going to go to a Island’s concert tonight. No class tomorrow morning. And tomorrow morning is the weekend, right? Things are flying by. Am I halfway through?

Thems the Islands. You can guess their type of music with enough time, just by the look of them: College pop, free jazz/folk influence. Catchy hooks, chorus driven songs. Dork rock. Formerly the unicorns. I might like them more as the Unicorns. I’ll see about that tonight.
And here’s a cool article up on the ACM site about my program. Actually, it’s about a field trip that we all went on in small groups. Actually, it’s about my group. So you should check it out… you reader person you.
Shout out to Janice Shainsky if she’s reading. Janice, the pantry we’ve got here does not compare in the slightest to yours… mostly I’m just finding new things to put peanut butter on.
